I have a Ph.D. in English from UC Irvine and a B.S. in Plant Biology from UC Berkeley. I've been teaching developmental and college-level English part time at local community colleges for the past couple of years. As a grad student at UC Irvine, I taught a variety of English and Composition classes for six years. When it comes to college-level essay writing, I know my stuff!
Experience
I'm a professor without previous tutoring experience--I'm looking forward to tutoring for the first time! My current and former students will tell you that I am excellent at one-on-one mentoring and that I'm great at providing detailed, helpful feedback on drafts and essays. If you have any issues with writing, I will take you through every stage of the writing process so that you end up improving your writing skills dramatically AND enjoying the process. By the time you draft and revise a single essay with me, you will have take-home skills that you'll be able to use throughout the rest of your career, no matter what your career is or will be. Based on your specific needs and preferences, I will craft a detailed, specially tailored writing program that--if you choose to do your part--will help you through your writing challenges and give you the skills to write the rest of your college essays with confidence on your own.
