I attended Binghamton University, where I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Comparative Literature and a minor in theater. Since graduating, I have been working in New York City, tutoring children from low income families. I also teach after-school courses for a women's community outreach program in The Bronx. My responsibilities include developing a university entrance exam preparation course, as well as tutoring privately. Even though I am capable of tutoring a wide variety of subjects, I am the most passionate about literature, writing, mathematics, and history.When I work with students needing help with their entrance exams, I try to make the reading and writing sections the most fun and engaging. In addition, having grown up as the son of a math teacher, I am able to simplify explanations to the most difficult and complex math problems.One of the most important approaches to being an effective tutor is to have excellent listening skills. The teacher must make the students feel comfortable enough to freely ask questions and express their frustrations. This needs to happen before true learning can be facilitated.I truly believe in education as a means to improve the quality of one's life, as it has done that for me. I feel that practice and education are two essential qualities needed for one's personal growth.
